Karnataka Cabinet Live Updates: In its first Cabinet meeting on Saturday, the state government accorded “in-principle” approval to implement the Congress party’s five guarantees and initial estimates indicate that it would cost the exchequer Rs 50,000 crore annually, CM Siddaramaiah said. The assurances promised before the elections would “most likely” be implemented after the next Cabinet meeting, he said.
The five guarantees are: provision of 200 units of free power to below-poverty-line homes, Rs 2,000 per month allowance to the women head of households, Rs 3,000 for graduates unemployed for up to two years after graduation and Rs 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders, 10 kg of free rice to all members of BPL homes, and free bus travel for women.
Siddaramaiah and KPCC president D K Shivakumar were sworn in as the next Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Congress MLAs including G Parameshwara, K H Muniyappa, K J George, M B Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, Priyank Kharge, Ramalinga Reddy, and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan were also sworn in as Ministers in the Siddaramaiah Cabinet.
